@Jose:

Thanks for adding your 5 cents- great perspective. One thing I want to add is that you don't always have to live your passion through work. When you aren't dependent upon your passion to earn a living (such as pursuing a hobby in your free time) can often let your passion flourish. It is important to be passionate about what you do if you have a business, but you don't have to have a business about your top passion

Great content.

From my personal experience i believe that everyone that is making the dream come true jumping onto something they love, following the passion flame, must know that, will not be always as funny as you think, you will need to take care of boring stuff, like administrative or maintenance tasks.

But when you are living your passion, you'll feel the joy and forget all the hard or unpleasant work that you had to do before get there.

You can't just focus on the dream, as the article mentioned at some point, you will be running a business, so, most of the times you will need to choose between the business and the passion, and you'll need to keep in mind that without the business there will not be any passion to follow.

Most important, enjoy the ride as much as you can.

My 5 cents.

@Savvy Life Coach:

Thanks for your comments. My perspective is that even if you start your own business, you may still not get to do the things you love in the way you love. You have to do what you love in the way that the CUSTOMER wants, since they are now your boss (i.e., no customers, no paycheck). In your photography example, you may love to take wedding photos, but the customer still dictactes what they want (candids vs. posed, indoor vs. outdoor, black and white vs. color, etc.) The best way to do what you love is a hobby- hobby's are "me-centric" while businesses are "customer-centric". You may be fortunate enough to find customers who want exactly what you love, but often you have to compromise to meet the customers' desires (at least to be successful over a long period of time).

Interesting piece. The hard thing is, if you don't start your own business, you sometimes won't get to do the things you love in the way you want. For example, as a photographer, you could work for someone else, but then you might not get to take the types of photos you love. It's definitely a catch-22, but everyone should know that in the beginning, you have to do everything. Later on, if you become successful, then you can outsource the things you don't like (the administrative tasks) and focus on what you love. I think that's the ultimate reward when you start your own business.
