Other people, including decision makers, don’t necessarily share your point of view, and may not care about your objectives or projects. Carol Roth shares her best advice for getting people to say yes to your idea in the short video below.

In her tips for how to influence others, Carol suggests:

  • Getting buy-in from other people and adding in their ideas to overcome “not invented here syndrome.”
  • Incorporating risk mitigation and why the more risk you can take out of the equation, the better off you are.
  • Putting yourself in their shoes because people have their own objectives and don’t necessarily view the world the way you do. 

And I added that understanding how someone is measured can be helpful because you can position your idea in a way that will be relevant to them – and then they will be more likely to support your idea.
